Iroquois Memorial Hospice celebrates 1st Anniversary

Linda Berg, Vice President Patient Services at Iroquois Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that on August 16, 2005, Iroquois Memorial Hospice is celebrating its first anniversary as an independent Hospice Program. “Hospice is a wonderful program that offers tremendous help to patients with a limited life expectancy and their families during some of the most difficult times,” she said.

Mrs. Berg explained that Hospice care involves a team-oriented approach of expert medical care, pain and symptom management, and emotional and spiritual support that is tailored to the patient’s individual needs and wishes. Hospice truly allows the patient to be in control of his or her choices and helps maintain quality of life.

Iroquois Memorial Hospice is Medicare Certified and services may be provided in the home, hospital or in a nursing home setting. Along with Nursing Care, other services include Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy. Aide Service, Medical Social Work, Chaplain and Bereavement Services are also available. Complimenting the care is a team of volunteers ready to help the Hospice patient and their family in a variety of ways.

Over the past year, Iroquois Memorial Hospice expanded its service area beyond Iroquois County and it now includes to the south ossville, Hoopeston, Rankin and Paxton. To the west care is being provided in Gibson City, Piper City and Chatsworth. In the past year, over 130 patients were served throughout the service area.
