Silver Cross Hospital Doubles Its Commitment to NAACP Scholarship Program

The Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission announced that Silver Cross Hospital is offering ,000 in scholarships to deserving African-American high school students through the Joliet Chapter of the National Association of Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

“On behalf of the Joliet Chapter of the NAACP, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Silver Cross for its generous commitment to our community’s future leaders,” said Nate Romeo, President of the Joliet Chapter of the NAACP. “We are so thrilled of Silver Cross’ continued recognition and support for this very important program to help area students achieve their goals of higher education.”

As the cost of college tuition continues to increase, more students are in need of financial support. The scholarships, which were given at the NAACP’s 21st Annual Freedom Fund and Scholarship Banquet on May 17, mark a doubling of Silver Cross’ commitment to the organization’s scholarship program.

“The livelihood of this critical program depends on generous support from our community’s businesses and corporations,” said Margie Woods, Chairman of the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission. “I am so proud Silver Cross takes its role as a community partner seriously and invested in NAACP’s efforts to advance educational opportunities for our students.”

The hospital also continues to work with the Healthy Community Commission to coordinate and enhance existing programs for workforce development, education and business growth with a focus on health care and construction. Just last month, the hospital announced a million charity commitment, which ensures that everyone, regardless of his or her ability to pay, will receive quality healthcare.

“Silver Cross remains committed to its roots and that includes doing everything we can to provide support and opportunities to the students in our community,” said Paul Pawlak, President and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital. “We are so pleased to work together with NAACP to help fund an incredible program that is an asset to the community.”
