FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Memorial VP of Nursing Honored by SIUE Alumni Association
Nancy Weston, RN, MSN, vice president of nursing services at Memorial Hospital was recently inducted into the Inaugural Class of the SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame. The SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame recognizes and honors SIUE alumni who, through their leadership, character and hard work, have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field, in their communities and with SIUE. Weston earned a bachelor of science in nursing from SIUE in 1977 and a master of nursing in medical and surgical nursing in 1993. "I am honored and humbled by this award," said Weston. "I am proud of my education from SIUE and cherish the relationship we have with SIUE and its students - - - they are our future." She has made significant contributions to the nursing profession and has exhibited excellence in nursing administration by choosing the pursuit of Magnet recognition as the road map to nursing excellence, improved patient outcomes and a rewarding practice environment. Since coming to Memorial in 2002, Weston has inspired the nursing staff to grow professionally by championing a nurse recognition program which rewards nurses for serving as preceptors, working on councils, obtaining certification, continuing education, engaging in research activities and supporting community endeavors. She also has implemented shared governance. Weston serves on the boards of the United Way and YMCA. She was honored earlier this year at the Jewels of Nursing Excellence Gala as the Outstanding SIUE School of Nursing Alumna. "Nancy certainly sets a positive example for generations to come," said Steve Jankowski, director of alumni affairs for SIUE. |
