Silver Cross Rehabilitation Services Receives 3-year Accreditation

For the third consecutive time, Silver Cross Hospital’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit has received a three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

This certification represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the hospital’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a three-year Accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable, and accountable.

"As a result of this exclusive accreditation, patients can be confident that Silver Cross Hospital has made a commitment to continually enhance the quality of the services and programs it provides to our patients while focusing on patient satisfaction," said Peggy Gricus, Vice President of Patient Care Services.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Silver Cross Hospital is a place where patients suffering from disabling conditions such as stroke, heart attack, joint replacement surgery or amputation can rediscover their independence to lead a productive life. Rehabilitation can also help people dealing with chronic conditions such as lung disease, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and muscular dystrophy.

Silver Cross Hospital's dedicated team of rehabilitation specialists includes experts in Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy, who under the direction of a full-time medical director, work closely with each patient to help them resume functional living while promoting a safe and independent lifestyle. Before patients are discharged, they

may participate in a community reintegration activity with a staff member such as shopping or going to the hairdresser or barbershop. The staff can also visit the home at the family’s request to ensure that it is safe and adaptable for the patient before returning home.

"Our goal is to help patients get back to life as quickly as possible," said Nora Connors Director of Rehabilitation Services at Silver Cross Hospital. “Each patient participates in an intensive, individualized treatment plan in a beautiful, home-like setting to meet the goals set by the patient, family and therapy team. We also encourage participation from family and friends in the treatment process, which includes goal setting, therapy and education.”
