Peggy Jaskula, RN, IMH Director Respiratory Therapy, announced that this year's theme for National Respiratory Therapy Week, October 25-31, is There When You Need Us. "With staffing 24/7 the IMH Respiratory Staff is an important member of the healthcare team at Iroquois Memorial Hospital," said Jaskula. The Respiratory Therapists provide all necessary treatment for the management of respiratory disorders and complications, ranging from acute conditions to the chronic conditions as well as respiratory care for those with heart and lung disorders. Respiratory Therapists can be found in the Emergency Department delivering life-saving treatments, in ICU managing ventilators that breathe for critically ill patients or providing treatments to patients with pneumonia, asthma and a variety of other respiratory disorders. Respiratory Therapists are also on duty in the IMH Sleep Lab performing sleep studies aiding in the diagnosis of sleep apnea. The IMH Respiratory Therapy Department provides all the necessary treatment for the management of respiratory disorders and complications, ranging from acute to chronic conditions. Some of the many treatments and services provided by IMH Respiratory Therapy include providing therapeutic gases and medications to patients, Chest Physiotherapy, EKG's, Pulmonary Function Testing, Emergency Resuscitation, Arterial Blood Gases, Sleep Studies, Smoking Cessation Education and Patient Education.
