FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Provena United Samaritans Begins Construction On Women's Health Center
In September 2008, Provena United Samaritans announced plans to construct a Women's Health Center within the existing hospital, and construction on the project has begun. The Women's Health center is just one of several components of a larger $2.7 million endeavor. In addition to renovating existing space for the center, plans also include improvements in Diagnostic Imaging areas, such as upgraded waiting areas and a new Cardiovascular Lab. The third element of the project involves the addition of a 64-slice CT scanner to replace the current 4-slice unit. The entire project is targeted to be completed by the end of the year. The goal of providing the best breast cancer detection capabilities for women in the Danville area began in earnest nearly three years ago, with Provena United Samaritans acquiring new technologies: digital mammography, and a minimally invasive breast biopsy system with multiple imaging methods including stereotactic, ultrasound, and MRI. A second biopsy system was added in February 2009 to accommodate more volume and scheduling flexibility. Now the medical center is creating a patient-centered physical environment to go along with the superior technology. The Women's Health Center will be located on the ground floor of the medical center, with a relaxing setting for the working professional, and a child-friendly area for patients that need to bring their children with them. The Center will have an improved decor, more privacy, and will create a more pleasant experience overall. The project will be done in phases in order to allow existing Diagnostic Imaging services to continue serving patients as usual throughout the construction schedule. "It's very exiting to be able to enhance our diagnostic services and to proceed with our vision of providing complete breast health care for the women in our community," stated Mike Brown, President/CEO of Provena United Samaritans. "We absolutely wouldn't be able to accomplish this goal without the support of this community and the many generous donors who pledged financial support through our Foundation." More than $520,000 for the Women's Health Center was generated through fundraising efforts of the Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation. The remainder of the costs will be paid through capital funding with support from Provena Health. For more information on the future Women's Health Center, visit www.provena.org/usmc. |
