Chicago region hospitals generate .7 billion in personal income, spend .8 billion in capital improvements, study finds
Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council member hospitals have an
enormous impact on the local economy, states a newly released study.
The study reports that, in 2003, metropolitan Chicago-area hospitals:
- Directly and secondarily employed 402,290 workers, making hospitals the third-largest employment source in the region;
- Generated .7 billion in personal income for the residents of the region;
- Contributed .8 billion in capital improvements to the economy; and
- Generated better-paying and sustainable employment
opportunities – with an average salary and benefits package of ,088;
that is approximately ,000 more than the regional average salary and
benefits package of ,021.
